Rejuvenating Our Club!

When a call for service was recently sent out to help rejuvenate the Yale Club of Sacramento after a few dormant years, the following individuals quickly answered the call by volunteering to be members of the board. We are pleased to announce the Board of Directors of the Yale Club of Sacramento.

1.    President: Lulu L. Wong (Morse 1990) is a retired attorney and certified Buddhist Chaplain. She lives in east Sacramento with her husband and rescue dog. She would like to see our club revive and thrive. She hopes you share the same vision.

2.    Treasurer: Clarence Chan (Trumbull 1992) practices law and lives in Stockton with his wife, Sandra, and their two boys. He has served in various roles in the Yale Club of Sacramento, including ASC Director and President. He likes beer.

3.    Secretary: Ana Bachurova (SOM 2014) works in Europe on environmental policy and climate finance. She is currently back in the US with a Fulbright fellowship for professional development, based in Davis. She looks forward to (re)connecting with the Yale Community.

4.    ASC Director: Elaine Lau (Berkeley 1995) lives in Davis, CA, with her LAW 2000 husband and family. She’s a scientist, enthusiastic supporter of performing arts, early music education, and recreational youth sports. She recently returned to New Haven for the first time in 27 years for her pandemic-delayed 25th reunion, and her classmates were as interesting and human, and the campus just as beautiful, as she remembered.

5.    YAA Delegate: William Kahrl (Berkeley 1968) is a retired consultant in strategic communications and public policy. Much of his career has been devoted to natural resources problems in California. He and his wife Kathleen live in the Sierra Foothills where he currently serves as Chair of the Newcastle Fire Protection District and she handles events coordination for the Tsakopoulos Galleria in downtown Sacramento.

6.    Web Master: Lars Gjerde (School of Nursing 2018) is a nurse practitioner supervisor at UC Davis Medical Center, leading an expanding team of NPs and PAs. A former music director, he lives in Roseville and stays involved in local classical music. His favorite hobbies are gardening, cooking, and entertaining.

7.    Board Member: Steve Cohn (Silliman 1975) retired as Chief Assistant General Counsel for SMUD and served on the Sacramento City Council from 1994 to 2014. He currently serves as Chair, Sacramento Metro Advocates for Rail and Transit (SMART); Past President, Breathe California; and Board member, Natomas Basin Conservancy. He and his wife Catherine met in Ai-en-Provence, France and live in East Sacramento where they raised two children. Steve is the author of Citizen Cohn, a memoir, and The Blue Sky Rebellion, a novel.

8.    Board Member: Janice Prudhomme (Trumbull 1986). Singing group alum and ukulele enthusiast. Legal administrator and writer, with previous career stints in nonprofit development and the film industry. She is a big fan of her newly adopted hometown, Sacramento, and is excited to meet and help re-engage our community of Yalies.

They say 20% of the organization does 80% of the work. We are an all volunteer club without staff. We also do not charge annual dues and plan to continue to offer activities, including our upcoming speaker series, free of charge to our members.  We ask that you consider giving back to Yale Club of Sacramento in the following ways:

·      Time: help plan an activity or host an event

·      Connections: propose speakers

·      Money: Yale Club of Sacramento is a non profit organization. Please contact our Treasurer, Clarence Chan, for charitable gift letter.

Visit the leadership page to see everyone’s friendly faces!
